Access

I will never assume anyone’s access needs - and I understand that not all disabilities are visible.

As a disabled, plus size (I use the word fat) person, certain things are crucial to me feeling comfortable.

Entrance

The front door has one small step into the building. I have a long ramp available, so it isn’t a short steep incline (pictured).

Bathroom

Access to the bathroom is via the kitchen, traditional with most terraces/shops in Stirchley. There are two doors between the loo and the coworking space.

The bathroom measurements are 2.2m from door to rear wall, and 1m width.

The bathroom is currently not big enough for a wheelchair, mobility scooter or carer at the moment. I can send photos if you’d like to take a look at this, or anything, for yourself - get in touch via email.

There is space outside the bathroom door for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and seating for carers.

There’s a side table to the right of the loo and free menstrual products.

Chairs

There are two types of chair:

  • Adjustable swivel chair (Ikea, Millberget 2019, max. seat height: 62cm, min. seat height: 52cm, seat depth: 45cm, seat width: 52cm, tested for 110kg / 17st3 link to chair on Ikea website). You are supposed to have your arm rests up to the same level of the table, and these chairs allow you to do this. I have four swivel chairs available

  • Non swivel (Habitat, Jerry, chair height 84cm, seat width W48.5, seat depth 54.5cm, seat height 46.5cm weight limit 110kg / 17st3 link to chair on Argos website) I have eight available. I usually sit on one because I don’t like the feeling of moving around - neurodivergence.

Desks

The tables were custom built by Phil for the coworking space, made especially so you can spread out.

The width of the table tops are 109cm, the height is 74cm, the table top itself is 3cm ply, which brings the inside of the table to a height of 71cm. The table fits two people on - the entire top is 122cm in length so there is around 60cm of space to the middle of the table.

I have small portable step, and a booster seat cushion available for use.

I also have laptop stands available to borrow, you will need to bring your own keyboard and mouse.

Noise

Noise levels are relatively low. The unit is a former shop unit and is on the main high street and the double glazing keeps most traffic noise out.

The coffee machine is in the kitchen, not the main space. I always keep the door closed when the grinder is on.

People do have occasional zoom meetings, generally it is a quiet space though.

I’m working on adding more soft furnishings.

Light

The lights are ‘warm’, and can be dimmed if you find them too bright.

Dogs

Service dogs and therapy dogs are welcome, please include a note on your booking giving me a heads up.

Temperature

I have two radiators in the main coworking area, these are controlled by a Hive thermostat that I can adjust.

Please dress appropriately for the weather (and sitting still at a desk).

Cost

I have a ‘rainy day fund’ for those whom cost might be a barrier for entry. No questions asked, just email me.

Parking

There’s on street parking for up to one hour. However, if you need a refresher of the rules surrounding Blue Badge parking, here’s the Government’s website.

Future

If you have any suggestions of ways I can make the space more accessible, or would like to discuss your access requirements ahead of your visit, please do let me know via email, I’ll do everything I can to ensure you have a comfortable visit and I am always learning.
